Your Morning Coffee 12/01/2022

Good morning!

Welcome to your morning coffee! May our Heavenly Father call us to His Word and into His presence in prayer today. Father speak to us today. Teach us your will. Mold our lives to it. Our attitudes and agendas are so often unmoored from your good and perfect Will revealed in your Word. In the name of your son Jesus and by the power of the Spirit, He who lives within us, bring us into delightful submission to your Will and your Word today. May we hear from you more and more as we submit to you more and more!

Your Morning Song: "We Are Not As Strong As We Think We Are" by Rich Mullins

Your Morning Scripture: Proverbs 2:6-8

For the Lord gives wisdom;

from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

He holds success in store for the upright,

He is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,

for He guards the course of the just

and protects the way of his faithful ones.

If you read yesterday's devotional, you might recognize these verses. I can save you the effort of double-checking. These are the same verses. But why?

God's Word is unlike any other book that has ever existed. It is the only writing that is alive, living, breathing, cutting and cleaving down into the very depths of our inner being. It is so full of and rich with meaning that every time I read it there is a wealth of wisdom just waiting for me. Ever tried drinking through a fire hose? It's something like that. And even after drinking deeply of God's Word once in one specific spot, we can so often return and find more.

Yesterday we talked about how wisdom comes from and belongs to God. That all of the benefits of Godly wisdom will only be present in our lives if we do not ignore His wisdom or attempt to claim it as our own.

But there's more. Let's assume that you are humbly seeking God's wisdom in His Word and in prayer, giving Him credit, putting it into practice, and receiving the promised benefits of daily living in submission to God's wisdom.

What wisdom is God giving you? What knowledge and understanding have come from His mouth and taken root deep in your inner being? What is God saying to you?

Not how do we feel about something. Not what would we like to have Him say to us. But submitting our attitudes and agendas, what is God actually saying to us? What wisdom is He actually teaching us? If we are daily seeking God's wisdom, He will daily give it. It will come from out of our time spent eating the Bible and kneeling before God in prayer. And once we have whatever wisdom He gives us it will be able to stand the test of the rest of God's Word.

So what wisdom is God giving to you today? Are we seeking out His voice in His Word? Are we speaking to Him and hearing from Him in His presence in prayer?

Church, we live in a harsh, sad reality. Most of us do not know the Bible well enough to hear from God. He will not speak to us if we do not seek Him in it. He will only call us to His Word, call us to obedience in seeking Him on His terms. And then, when we have submitted our wills to His, only then will He speak clearly and daily in His Word and in prayer. He is not so cruel as to do it any other way.
